Grantwriting & Grantsmanship
One of the most commonly recognized tools in fund raising is the grant proposal. A staple in the world of philanthropy, the proposal takes on a variety of shapes and sizes depending on who is reading it. However, common to all proposals is the objective of organizing the mission, goals, programs, and financial needs of an organization into a written document for public review.
The grant proposal can serve as an introduction to an organization or it can be a formality after a verbal commitment of funds has already been reached. Today, the commonly used RFP (request for proposal) is being joined and, in some cases, replaced by Position Papers, Working Papers and Annual Reports as tools to cultivate support. After evaluating an organization's strengths and weaknesses, PCG advises clients on the best method to employ when approaching donors.
How PCG works:
In response to the changing climate in philanthropy, as donors require greater oversight, planning and governance on the part of their grantees, PCG combines both planning and program development as part of the grant writing consultancy. PCG will diagnose an organization's mission, programs, long-term goals, financials, and infrastructure prior to the drafting of the proposal. PCG works with several common boilerplate applications, including the New York/New Jersey common application and the National Endowment for the Arts application.
