CASE STUDY
JPC helped a well-known children's shelter weather a highly publicized scandal, advising the interim Executive Director and staff on communication strategies, and successfully develop two new initiatives both of which were funded by NYC's Administration for Children and Family Services, a first for the shelter.
Jane Penn has worked in the non-profit sector for 15 years. She began her career in fund raising as Development Manager at the Limon Dance Company, where she helped increase contributed income by more than fifty percent from government, foundation and corporate sources during the company's 50th anniversary celebrations. During her tenure, she spearheaded the company's first-ever arts-in-education program, L.I.N.K.s, thanks to a generous, multi-year grant from the Surdna Foundation.
In 2000, Ms.Penn branched out on her own working as a fundraising counsel. Parlaying the skills she acquired helping the Limon Company make the move from small to mid-sized organization, Ms.Penn specializes in helping organizations successfully navigate periods of transition and growth.
Ms.Penn has been able to offer assistance to a variety of nonprofits in the fields of arts and culture, youth services, information services and education. Ms.Penn has served as an evaluator and panelist for private and public arts councils, including New York Foundation for the Arts, the New Jersey State Arts Council, Mid-Atlantic Arts Council and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. She has lectured on arts administration in the graduate departments of New York University and Brooklyn College. In 2003, she was enlisted by The Foundation Center to provide consulting services in its First Steps/Next Steps program for 'under-resourced' organizations.
