PCG Model

The ABC's of Raising Funds

The word money is not used often when strategizing how to raise funds. If an organization is a leader in their field, has a broad network of stakeholders in their mission and can handle the administrative growth of their programs, the funds will come.

The good news is that for typically 'smaller' organizations the organizational development that needs to take place does not require the same amount of capital and time investment necessary as at a larger institution.

The PCG Model incorporates a 3-tiered approach, consisting of 1) planning, 2) product and 3) representation.

Planning is the initial stage where one lays a foundation before the start of a funding campaign. Product is the core component of most consultancies, involving strategy and technical assistance, and including such tools as grant writing, strategic plans and board development. Finally, representation is the added value PCG offers where Ms. Penn will function as an emissary for an organization at various functions, events and meetings.

The PCG model combines the most valuable human resources of a consultant, a temp and a senior-level staff person at a fraction of the cost, both in terms of time and money.

The length of a consultancy also plays a key role in defining the PCG model. Most contracts are carried out in concentrated phases extending over a period of time.
